A detail that matched the scene

WOAI reported that Wilson's Grindr conversation specified a meeting place and a red jacket. Witnesses described the shooter wearing red. The final exchange was five minutes before the first emergency call. Investigators also recovered a fingerprint matching Pleasant. These details came from the arrest report, published while he was still accused.

The following night, a welfare check led police to West's apartment. Investigators found evidence that he, too, had messaged the suspect. Fingerprints and a matching shell casing connected the scenes. The link extended beyond two people having used a dating app: investigators described physical evidence connecting the same suspect to both killings.

What the sentence actually means

Reporting in March 2026, citing the Bexar County district attorney's office, described convictions for the two murders, aggravated robbery and aggravated sexual assault of a child. Each carried a 50-year term. The terms run together; adding them into a consecutive 200-year sentence would misstate the reported outcome.

The limits of a profile

Our reading of the evidence is that a displayed name was a starting point for investigation, not proof of identity. Linking an account to a person required evidence outside the conversation. That distinction matters without assigning either victim responsibility for uncovering a violent offender.

For practical context, see what a phone lookup can tell you and how to check a dating profile photo. Neither offers a safety guarantee, and this case does not establish that a lookup would have prevented the killings.
